Welcome to The Skipper Social Quarter Hour!
The Skipper Social Quarter Hour is a project I've been developing in my head for years. My name is Brett Schutt, and I am an independent filmmaker. In the past I have made films that have exercises in trippy surrealism. One of these films, called Walter's Wonderland, was a nightmare odyssey through a fictional show called Walter's Wonderland based off a PBS syndicated show in a similar vein to Walter's Wonderland, you can watch it right here!
This film got acclaim for being a unique vision and I continued to come up with ideas on how I could further expand on the ideas of making something look and feel like a television broadcast. That is when I came up with a The Skipper Social Quarter Hour- a show where the host could interview the weirdest people and creatures from all walks of life.
I had discussed the idea with my friend Alessandro Bonaiuto, and when we got stuck last year in Orlando Florida during Hurricane Milton, we decided to write the script and start making the project. The script was making us both laugh as we read it- so we decided to start showing it to other people who all agreed we needed to get the film made and now we are on the journey to make that happen!
I feel like I am the only person who would be able to tell the story we have written. It is one with so many of my own comedic sensibilities, but I also like to write my own thoughts and feelings about the world in my scripts. This is a irreverent puppet show that does comment about the issues going on in our world and the fact that we can all feel isolated at times (like a dead bird under a wet floor sign - when you watch the final film you'll know what I mean by that!)
I've wanted to be a filmmaker ever since I was thirteen years old and watched Toy Story 3 for the first time in theatres. My anticipation for that film and the way it delivered for me made me want to make something one day people would grab onto in the same way. Now, with my experience on multiple film sets, my degree in film production and my trips through various film festivals- I feel like I'm ready to make this film. I'm wanting to make it as my vision, but my ultimate goal is to make it and give it to you all and hopefully give you some good laughs and even maybe make you think about the outside world in a different way.
